Once more, Simone Biles has succeeded. Biles earned her eighth all-around championship at the U.S. Championship on Sunday night, ten years after she claimed her maiden crown.
She has won eight all-around national titles, making her the only gymnast, male or female, to do so. She is the oldest woman to win the all-around competition at age 26. Shilese Jones finished in second place with a score of 118.40, nearly four full points behind Biles, who won the competition at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
Leanne Wong came in third place. Jordan Chiles (fifth) and Jade Carey were two additional Team USA gymnasts from the most recent Olympics in Tokyo that earned positions (15th).
Sunisa Lee only in the vault and beam competitions. According to The Washington Post, the top-five finishers’ average age was 21.7, which is the oldest since at least 2006.
Biles won on Sunday after dominating the vault, beam, and floor exercise. No other female gymnast attempts the Yurchenko double pike, which Biles successfully executed on the vault on Friday.

After the first day of the competition, she held a commanding lead. With her victory, Biles broke the tie for the most U.S. all-around national titles with Alfred Jochim.
Jochim won his final championship in 1933. Biles won four straight championships from 2013 to 2016 before repeating in 2018 and again in 2019 and 2021.
Biles returned to competition earlier this month at the U.S. Classic, her first appearance at the top level since the Tokyo Olympics when she withdrew from a number of events due to “twisties” she was experiencing.
The World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, early next month will likely be Biles’ next competition. In 2013, Biles triumphed at the global championships for the first time. It is unknown if Biles will participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, but it seems that she is moving in that direction.
She stated on Sunday on NBC that she intended to keep her objectives a secret.
