When Russian officials claimed they shot down drones that attempted to strike Moscow early on Wednesday, a representative for the US State Department stressed the US never supports nor authorizes assaults inside Russia.
The State Department official said Ukraine must decide how to defend itself against the Russian invasion, which started in February of last year. She added that Russia has the option to terminate the conflict at any time by leaving Ukraine.
Since two unmanned aircraft were destroyed above the Kremlin in early May, drone attacks have intensified in Russia’s interior. In recent months, drone attacks on the Russian capital have increased.
The United States has constantly stated that it opposes assaults within Russia, despite providing Ukraine with significant assistance in the form of guns and other military hardware to fend off the Russian invasion.
Early on Wednesday, the Russian defense ministry reported that three drones that attempted to assault Moscow had been shot down by air defense systems.

Early on Wednesday, flights from Moscow airports were halted, according to the TASS news agency in Russia. Due to Ukrainian drone activity, major airports in the vicinity of the Russian capital have frequently shut down for both departing and arriving flights recently.
The Defence Ministry reported on Tuesday that Russia also shot down two Ukrainian drones over the Moscow area without causing any deaths and downed two more drones over the bordering Ukrainian region of Bryansk.
Normally, Ukraine doesn’t address who is responsible for strikes on Russian soil, but it seems to have increased such raids ever since two drones were shot down over the Kremlin in early May.
Similar assaults have momentarily halted flights and mainly caused minor structural damage to buildings.
