After missing the last six months of activity due to an ankle injury, Neymar might have to wait until mid-September to make his Al-Hilal debut.
The 60,000 supporters who showed out for his lavish welcome were disappointed by the news that Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus acknowledged the Brazil star was “not ready.”
Neymar, a Brazilian football superstar, joined the high-spending Saudi Premier League on Saturday and was welcomed by tens of thousands of adoring fans at Al-Hilal.
In the 68,000-seat King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, the flashy forward made his entrance while being doused in flames and fireworks.
The 31-year-old, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and later became the most expensive footballer in history, waved and grinned at the audience as a drone display spelled “Neymar is blue” above the location.

Neymar has generated a lot of excitement as he joins a long list of legendary players who are nearing the end of their careers and are being drawn in by the lucrative contracts offered by the oil-rich Saudi Arabia.
According to a source familiar with the negotiations, he will make 100 million euros a season in Saudi Arabia, while PSG will receive 100 million euros from the contract.
With his move to Al-Hilal, Neymar surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo of Al-Nassr, who earns £175 million annually, as the second best paid player in the world.
Al-Hilal just recruited Neymar to their roster along with fellow Brazilian Malcom, ex-Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, and ex-Fulham and Newcastle forward Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who had already entered, were followed by them.
As he recuperates from an ankle injury suffered in February, Neymar, who hasn’t played for Brazil since the World Cup last year, has been named to the squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia on September 8 and Peru four days later.
