Unveiling the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD: A $300,000 Performance Marvel

Ford Motor has introduced the 2025 Mustang GTD, a limited-edition, high-performance hot rod with a starting price of $300,000, joining competitor General Motors in the ranks of American supercars.

Ford’s newest model is powered by a fossil fuel-fueled, supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing more than 800 horsepower, which is an odd turn for a business that has committed billions of dollars to producing millions of zero-emission electric vehicles.

The GTD’s transaxle, which has an eight-speed dual-clutch Tremec transmission, is then fitted into the Mustang shell’s back. The gearbox is cooled by a transaxle cooler that is fitted to the trunk lid.

The engine should be able to maintain all eight cylinders adequately lubricated on the track with the help of a dry-sump oil system.

Hot air emerges from two sizable pipes that protrude from the rear fascia of the vehicle as part of an optional titanium exhaust built by Akrapovic.

In order to maximize the traction offered by the enormous 345/30ZR-20 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R rear tires, we assume the GTD has a launch-control system. Ford equips the GTD’s front end with 325/30ZR-20 tires, some of the largest tires we can remember seeing mounted on a production car’s front end.

Design and Performance Features of the Mustang GTD

Ford Motor has introduced the 2025 Mustang GTD, a limited-edition, high-performance hot rod with a starting price of $300,000, joining competitor General Motors in the ranks of American supercars.

The grip of the rubber is maximized by a custom suspension. The front suspension features new unequal-length control arms and adaptive spool-valve (ASV) dampers from Multimatic, while the rear suspension uses pushrod-style multilinks with inboard-mounted ASV dampers and coil springs.

To further reduce unsprung weight, even lighter forged magnesium wheels are an option in addition to the conventional forged aluminum wheels. Underneath the GTD’s wheels, enormous carbon-ceramic brake rotors are concealed. The front rotors are kept from overheating by special cooling ducts.

The GTD’s body descends by about 1.6 inches with the stroke of a button to maximize its aerodynamic package. The enormous wing that hangs off the C-pillar can be ordered separately and will have a hydraulically controlled active drag-reduction system (DRS) that will enhance downforce as needed.

The 2024 Mustang coupe, which starts at about $31,000, is the general inspiration for the Mustang GTD.

But, the new Mustang GT3 racer, which is anticipated to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the world’s most prestigious endurance events, has more in common with the Mustang GTD.

GM’s $340,000 supersedan, the Cadillac Celestiq, a large, battery-powered four-door fastback that begins production late this year at the automaker’s technology center in Warren, Michigan, has little in common with the ultra-Mustang other than its exorbitant price.
