James Harden is a member of a Philadelphia 76ers team that is unwilling to give him what he wants after he turned down maximum contract extensions with the Rockets and the Nets.
Harden has stated that he would someday like to play in China given the attention he got after publicly disparaging GM Daryl Morey there.
Given that basketball is the most popular sport in the Asian country, Chinese fans of the game may be even more passionate than American ones. The biggest superstar to play in their nation would be Harden.
Maybe Harden starts a new trend where elite NBA athletes leave the league for a final payday in China, similar to the trend of soccer players seeking lucrative contracts in Saudi Arabia.
Given all that the former MVP has accomplished, the idea that Harden would play in China seems quite absurd. He should have been vying for titles till the end of his career, but due to career-long choices that backfired, he is now in this position.

Last season, he scored 21.0 points, grabbed 6.1 rebounds, and handed out 10.7 assists per game.
Harden has received backing from Andre Iguodala and Kyrie Irving, but if Daryl Morey decides not to move him, it appears like he may be left with no alternative.
Experts are worried that he won’t even obtain a deal for the upcoming season. His best choice will be to finish the season as well as he can with Philadelphia before weighing his alternatives as a free agency the following summer.
The upcoming NBA season will include Harden on the court. Somewhere. But if the salary was more than what the NBA was offering, would he consider moving to China for a season in a few years? Maybe. Perhaps a Chinese team will step up and offer a sizable sum for him.
Since it’s James Harden, anything is possible.
