In an attempt to breach what has been the frontline in the south of Ukraine for months, Ukrainian forces have attempted to cross the Dnipro River, which separates liberated and occupied Kherson.
Up to seven boats carrying six to seven individuals each landed near the village of Kozachi Laheri, east of Kherson city, on Tuesday, breaking through Russian defensive lines, according to Russian military bloggers.
Although it looked like Russian forces had some success retaliating against the Ukrainian soldiers, it was alleged that they had advanced up to 800 meters after reaching the riverbank.
Vladimir Saldo, the leader of the Kherson oblast under Russian occupation, asserted that the Ukrainian raid had been defeated.
The respected Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in Washington, however, reported that it appeared a tiny raid may have been more successful than Saldo had thought.

Saldo was probably deliberately attempting to refute reports of Ukrainian involvement in this region to prevent spreading fear in the already fragile Russian information environment.
The majority of well-known Russian [military bloggers] asserted that Ukrainian forces were able to arrive on the east bank under cover of darkness and use tactical surprise before confronting Russian forces in small-arms combat.
It also included satellite images that appeared to confirm the assertion that a significant battle had occurred nearby.
The Dnipro River, which has been established as the demarcation line between the warring parties since Ukraine’s successful offensive in Kherson in November advanced on to what is known as the left bank of the river, has been the target of numerous efforts by Ukrainian forces to cross it.
Despite concerns about the durability of the Ukrainian defenses, the elite 73rd Marine Special Operations Unit of Ukraine launched a raid in June. However, the most recent landing looks to have been the most significant of recent months.
