Progressive Agenda: Largest Teachers Union Stance Grows Stronger

Recent comments made by the president of the National Education Association (NEA), the largest teachers union in the United States, have reignited discussions about the ideological direction of K–12 education and the extent to which progressive ideals are permeating classrooms across the country. 

NEA President Becky Pringle’s recent speech before almost 7,000 delegates at the annual conference in Orlando, Florida, gives a dramatic illustration of these issues as conservative pundits and media outlets sound the alarm about the alleged leftward shift in curriculum.

Pringle set a reverent tone for her speech by honoring previous civil rights pioneers before speaking to an audience that represented the NEA’s 3 million+ members. 

The story changed, though, when she turned her attention to current events and delivered remarks that had more in common with a gathering of progressive political activists than with a group of educators tasked with forming the brains of the next generation.

Pringle made no mention of parents at all in his speech, which was an obvious oversight that was noted by everyone.
