The Mets might seriously consider trading one of their own stars.

One of the more active clubs in baseball before to the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline, the New York Mets nonetheless missed out on a number of deals.

The slugger has a contract with the team through 2025, but if the Mets are a few years away from contending, they might decide to trade the 28-year-old.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, New York even reportedly mulled a deal before the trade deadline, but nothing materialized.

Although it’s unknown how seriously the Mets explored trading Alonso, the fact that there was even a remote chance of it happening by the time the 2024 season rolled around shows at least a remote likelihood.

As Scherzer said after being sent away, the Mets’ decision to trade Alonso would be an obvious indication that they don’t want to contend until at least the 2025 or 2026 season.

Although there is still plenty of time remaining in the current season and it is too soon to predict the following summer, Alonso is a player to keep an eye on.
