In the 2023 NBA Draft, Scoot Henderson eventually finished third, and he’s determined to make the two clubs that passed on him regret it.
Henderson stated in a Playmaker video that he will win Rookie of the Year and that his ultimate goal is to become the “greatest point guard to ever play the game.”
Since 2021, when he joined G League Ignite out of high school, the new point guard for the Portland Trail Blazers has been on the NBA’s radar, and his performance as a young professional has only boosted his confidence.
After No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama and No. 2 pick from the 2022 draught, Chet Holmgren, who missed the entirety of the previous season due to a broken foot suffered before the season started, Henderson presently has the third prospects to win Rookie of the Year.

Rookie of the Year Race Heats Up
The fact that Wembanyama is one of the best prospects to ever enter the league since Lebron James and has the potential to have an early impact on both sides of the ball makes him the clear favorite to win the Rookie of the Year accolade.
Similar in build and skill set to Wembanyama, Holmgren also has the advantage of having spent a year learning the game while on the bench.
Yet in the event that the Trail Blazers deal with Damian Lillard’s trade request before the start of the season, Henderson will probably possess the ball more frequently than any of them.
He also faces less risk of injury, which may be important given the new regulation requiring players to compete a minimum of 65 games before being eligible for major prizes.
Wembanyama would be the choice if choosing only for the honor. Henderson, meanwhile, is most likely the best bargain on the current board from a betting standpoint.
