A Texas lady has been jailed for reportedly burying her deceased crippled teenage son without alerting authorities, which is a disturbing incident that has shocked the neighborhood.
Veronica Marie Soriano, 34, is facing charges of second-degree felony tampering with or fabricating physical evidence related to a human corpse. Following her arrest, she was terminated from her position in the Lago Vista Public Works Department.
The distressing incident came to light in March when Child Protective Services (CPS) and police officers conducted a welfare check at Soriano’s home in Lago Vista. Concerns were raised about the welfare of her 16-year-old son, described as physically and intellectually challenged, and bedridden. Shockingly, it was revealed that the boy had not received any medical treatment since 2021.
Initially, Soriano’s daughter informed authorities that her younger brother was visiting their grandfather’s home in Georgia after speaking with her mother.
However, upon contacting the grandfather, he claimed the boy was with him. The situation took a turn when the grandfather later recanted his statement after Georgia officials performed a welfare check.
In a heart-wrenching twist, Soriano allegedly contacted CPS to report that her son had passed away. She claimed to have found him unresponsive at home after returning from the store with her 3-year-old child.
Concerned for the young child, a welfare check was conducted, but no one was found at the residence.

Law enforcement became suspicious when they discovered Soriano in the nearby Austin suburb of Georgetown that night, in possession of two shovels, a pickaxe, and other tools. A subsequent search warrant of her vehicle revealed an empty charcoal bag, a bottle with white powder, a plastic scoop with powder residue, and other items.
Detectives later received a crucial piece of evidence – a Google Maps photo with a marker indicating where the boy might have been buried.
The site, an empty lot roughly 16 miles from Lago Vista, revealed a mound of dirt covered with rocks. Shockingly, a body was found buried underneath, surrounded by charcoal briquets and wood chips, and covered with a white, powdery substance. Authorities believe that the body was buried between February 25 and March 10.
Neighbors in the community have expressed their deep concern and disgust over the shocking incident. One neighbor said, “I just really think it’s disgusting. I think that, for a mother, if a person has a child in an unstable condition, they need to make sure that they have the strength and if they don’t, they need to get help from someone.”
As the investigation unfolds, the community mourns the tragic loss of the young boy, and many are left grappling with the unsettling circumstances surrounding his burial.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and reporting any suspicions of abuse or neglect to safeguard the welfare of vulnerable individuals in our society.
