Electrifying Delaware: $2,500 Rebates for Electric Vehicle Buyers and Charging Mandate for New Homes

These two new laws make the way for more electric vehicles (EVs) on Delaware roads, and advocates hope that the state’s environmental secretary will take further action.

The sticker price for the Tesla was $38,000, yet after applying a $7,500 federal tax credit and a $2,500 Delaware rebate, the electric-powered sedan charged him $28,000.

Thompson additionally has the capacity to charge his vehicle at home, and he claims that the cost of electricity is negligible compared to the cost of petroleum, which is approximately $3.50 per gallon at present.

However, the Wilmington inhabitant is not your typical Delawarean. How to Become Eligible for Delaware EV Rebates?

A single law codifies a $2,500 rebate for Delawareans who purchase new electric vehicles (EVs) and a $1,000 incentive for new plug-in hybrid vehicles, as well as, for the first time, expands the rebate to purchasers of pre-owned vehicles. 

To be eligible for the state rebate, the vehicle’s price must not exceed $50,000. On the state’s website, dozens of qualifying vehicles are listed.

The second measure mandates that, beginning in January, every new single-family residences in the state must be equipped with EV charging infrastructure.

 This necessitates the addition of wiring, conduit, and a junction box. In addition, beginning in 2025, every new apartment and condominium building must install EV charging stations in 5% of parking spaces and infrastructure for charging in 10% of spaces.
